Fear or Favor
His heart is established; he will not be afraid.
Psalm 112:8
Charlie Brown, the famous character in Charles M. Schultz’s Peanuts comic strip, is quoted as saying, “I think I’m afraid of being happy because whenever I get too happy something bad always happens.” Don’t we all feel that way—at least sometimes? Our happiness is often diminished because we’re so afraid of what might happen to ourselves or to our loved ones.

How to Protect Your Credit Cards From 'Web Skimming' Scams
You have probably heard of skimming, a type of fraud in which criminals install physical devices capable of capturing your payment card details on ATMs, gas pumps, and point-of-sale terminals. If you enter your debit or credit card into one of these fake card readers, your data is stored for later download or transmitted wirelessly in real time to a device controlled by scammers, who will use the…

The Grilled Cheese Hack
We have a few recipes we go to when we want something quick, easy, low-mess, and completely satisfying. While we can whip up a pizza bagel, upgrade basic ramen, or make easy mac and cheese when the family is hungry and there's little time to cook, it's hard to beat a classic grilled cheese sandwich. It's ooey, gooey, cheesy, and toasty. And it's easy to dress up with fancy add-ins and artisanal…

Living in Freedom
Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.
Psalm 32:1
While we celebrate the uniqueness of every individual created in the image of God, there is one way in which all humans are alike. We have all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). That means we have all experienced what happens when we do things we know we shouldn’t. We all experience the…

The Fastest Muscle In Your Body
The human eye is a biological wonder. Able to perceive the subtle hues of 1 million colors and filled with tens of millions of photosensitive rods and cones, our eyes help interpret reality for us — but they’d be useless without a muscle called the orbicularis oculi. A sphincter muscle arranged in concentric bands around both eyelids, the orbicularis oculi controls blinking and drains tears from the eye to the nasolacrimal duct system (which eventually drains into the nasal cavity).

Where Is The Center Of The USA
Many states consider themselves the heartland of America, but where exactly is the geographic center of the U.S.? If you’re including only the lower 48 states, look no further than a nondescript field north of Lebanon, Kansas, located at 39° 50' 00" N 98° 35' 00" W. Not much marks this otherwise typical stretch of Midwestern farmland, except for a nearby historical marker noting that the location was determined by the U.S. Ge…

January Was Not Always The First Month
Today’s modern calendar comes with a lot of quirks, not least of which are the names of the last four months. Although September, October, November, and December seemingly begin with numeral prefixes, the numbers don’t match their place in the calendar. October, for example, is not the eighth month of the year, but the 10th. So what’s going on here? Well, blame the Romans.
Ancient Rome’s…

The Day Christmas Made the Calendar
On December 25th in 352, Pope Liberius celebrated the first official Christmas mass in Rome—marking the moment December 25 became the day on the calendar.
This wasn’t the first time Christians had celebrated Jesus’ birth: Some observances likely took place as early as the 2nd century, and the church in Rome began recognizing Christ’s birthday in 336. But it was Emperor Constantine’s…

Keeping the Peace
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3
How is it that the season in which we celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) can become a season of stress and anxiety? The Christmas season has become so busy that it is easy to lose the peace that Jesus promised: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you” (John…

The World’s Quietest Room
By faith the walls of Jericho fell down after they were encircled for seven days.
Hebrews 11:30
If you want peace and quiet, you might visit the anechoic chamber at Orfield Laboratories in Minnesota. It’s designed to be silent—so silent that background noise is measured in negative decibels below the threshold of human hearing. It’s one of the quietest rooms in the world, and visitors report…

The Currency of Heaven
The rich man also died and was buried.
Luke 16:22
According to Forbes magazine, 31 billionaires died in 2024, leaving behind $207 billion in all. Isak Andic, for example, was the founder of a fashion retail empire. He plunged down a ravine while hiking with his son. He was 71.
There’s nothing wrong with money, but it cannot buy our way into heaven. In Luke 16, Jesus told of a beggar named…

Run to Win
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
The 34th Summer Olympic Games will be held in Los Angeles, California, in July 2028. For two weeks, the eyes of the world will be focused on the athletes who gather to compete for an Olympic medal. What the eyes of the world are not focused on at present is the athletes’ preparation and training—the behind-the-scenes work that is necessary to allow them to succeed in their…

June 23rd 2025
It was on this day that our daughter, Eliana Lou Ann, was born to Mylin and I. It was totally unexpected just as her pregnancy was so it came as no surprise to us. There were no complications with the dlivery other then Mylin actually forgot how to deliver a baby which shocked me.
